Czech jobless rate down at 8.5 pct in June

The number of jobseekers ready to commence work immediately grew by 34,934 to 487,733 in June. Analysts polled by CTK had expected the jobless rate to stagnate or decrease slightly thanks to demand in industry.

Employment offices registered 48,788 new jobseekers in June, 727 more than in May and 11,950 fewer than in June last year.

A total of 63,067 jobseekers left employment offices´ files in June, which is 10,343 fewer than in May and 8,323 more than in June last year. Out of these, 41,130 people found new jobs.

While in May all employment offices registered decreases in unemployment, in June the jobless rate grew in two districts, namely in Nymburk (1.8 pct) and Kolin (0.1 pct), both central Bohemia. The biggest fall in the share of jobless people was registered in Znojmo, southern Moravia (7.3 pct), and Jesenik, northern Moravia (7 pct).

The expected steep growth in the number of graduates from universities and secondary schools has not been confirmed. Employment offices registered 24,005 graduates at the end of June, which was 4,172 fewer than in May. The graduates made up 4.8 percent of all the unemployed.

The number of vacancies dropped by 178 to 32,927 against May. There are 15.2 jobseekers per vacancy at present.

Employment offices registered 2,096 vacancies for disabled people and 4,835 vacancies for graduates.
